Chad And Romania | The Flag Confusion

There are a lot of countries in this world, and when we talk about countries and geography, we do know that every country has its own flag which they represent it proudly. A flag is a nation's pride. And every flag has its own meaning, which separates the country's flag both, visually and mentally. Now there are more than 190 countries on Earth. And there can be a small probability that 2 or more flags may match as well! How can a flag match or just be the same? There are a few, not many, but a few flags that seriously match each other. You can not even recognize who's flag is who. I mean, there are very small differences as to no flag can be the same! But seriously, not even joking, at the first glance, it will really stress you out.

A flag is kind of a piece of cloth, which is mostly rectangular, but for a few nations like the Switzerland and Nepal, they aren't rectangular. It is attachable to a pole and is used as a symbol or emblem of a country.

Every nation has its own unique flag. But there are two nations/countries Chad And Romania which basically have got the same flag!

Now I agree that there must be some difference between the two flags as you can see.

The fact is that Chad's Flag's Blue is deeper or darker than the Romanian flag. This fact will surely help you out to figure out which flag is the Chad ones and which is the Romanian one. So yes always remember, I mean if you want to be a good geologist or geographer, then you must know and remember that Chad has a darker blue in its flag and Romania has a lighter blue in its flag. That's the only difference between the two flags. This is why it is so so difficult to recognize the two flags and it kinda has started an internet argument.

Now let's understand why the two flags are so matching and similar. The story starts from the history of the two countries.

The history of the design starts in 1848 when Romania originally had this flag.

This later changed into 1948 when Romania was taken control of by a kingdom.

On the other hand, Chad became independent from France only in 1959 and adopted this flag which is the current flag of Chad. (Yep, the current flag of Chad is French inspired. It is just the same as the French flag, but the only difference is it has yellow in the middle instead of white as in the French flag).

It wasn't until 1989, when communism ended in Romania and Romania became independent. Thus, it chose its original flag and removed the symbol in between. And then, the Romanian flag became the same as the Chad flag although there is a variation in the shade of blue. And do you know the most amazing fact? Chad, which saw the two flags matching each other, asked Romania to change their Flag! But Romania denied. Romania denied because they had been using their original flag more than a century before Chad adopted its flag and thus, there you go, this was how the two flags met similar to each other.

And if you already did not knew, these nations are not even connected although there flags got matched! For your knowledge, Chad is present near the Central African Republic (CAR) in the African continent. And Romania is located way up in the Europe near Ukraine. [Green in the Map is Chad and Orange in the Map is Romania].

So, although the flags might be seeming similar, each nation has a respect for their flag. And same goes with Romania and Chad. Both of them had different stories and thus co-incidentally matched their flag.

If you want more of these, then do comment.
