Kingdom Monera And Protista | Diversity In Living Organisms EP03

So, this is the 3rd Episode Classification of Organisms. Today we are going to see about the Kingdoms- Monera and Protista.

Now let's recall all the Kingdoms,

1) Monera
2) Protists
3) Fungi
4) Plantae
5) Animalia

Now we are going to just talk about Monera and Protista.
____________

Monera: It means Single Celled.
So, it is Prokaryotes.
Now it has 2 Domains: Eubacteria and Archaea.

Eubacteria lived on earth between 1.5-3 billion years ago. Now these are classified by the reaction of the cell membrane by a stain called Gram Stain.
Gram + = Have thick walls that can be stained with Gram Stain. Ex. Streptococcus, Bacillus, etc.
Gram - = Have thin walls that can't be stained with Gram Stain. Ex. Rhizobium, Cyanobacteria, etc.

Archaea lived on earth 3 billion years ago. They are called Extremophiles. These are divided into:
1) Methanogens ( Produces Methane )
2) Halophiles ( Thrive in High concentrations of Salt-bodies )
3) Thermoacidophiles ( Ability to thrive in high temperature and in low pH )

----------------------

Protista: Eukaryotes
It was first described by Ernst Haeckel in 1866.
Some of the Protista are multinucleated like Paramecium.

Slime Molds are Fungi like Protists. ( Looks like Fungi )
Algae are Plant like Protists. ( Some could Photosynthesis )
Protozoans, Paramecium are Animal like Protists. ( Has locomotory parts like Cilia )
